Band Letters

Students in the West Bands have the opportunity to earn a band letter, just as one would for athletics or academics.  A West Band Letter represents the hard work and dedication to the band program.  Students have the opportunity to earn band letter points in various ways throughout the school year.  A representative list of “point earning” methods is below.  

Students are responsible for submitting their point requests through the form below no later than April 15th to be considered for that school year. Points submitted after that date will be entered into the Charms system by the following May at the latest.

Point totals are accumulated from year to year. If you have a question about your band letter points, please contact Mr. Singer.

BAnd Letter Point Levels

  1. 350 Points: music letter, pin, bar, and certificate awarded

  2. 700 Points: second letter bar and certificate awarded

  3. 1050 Points: third letter bar and certificate awarded

  4. 1400 Points: fourth letter bar and certificate awarded

  5. 1750 Points: fifth letter bar and certificate awarded

  6. 2100 Points: sixth letter bar and certificate awarded

Point Earning Opportunities

  • OASD Summer Marching Band or Jazz Band: 100 points

  • Tri-M Participation: 100 points per year and 10 additional points per event attended

  • Performance in Multiple Bands: 40 points per band per year

  • Participation in Other Music Classes: 40 points per ensemble per year

  • Honors Bands/Orchestras: 40 points

  • Oshkosh Youth Symphony (OYS, Inc.): 40 points

  • Drumline: 25 points per season

  • Private Instrument Lessons: 20 points per semester

  • West Symphony Orchestra Winds and Percussion: 25 points

  • Pit Orchestra: 50 points

  • Summer Music Camp Participation: 25 points

  • Uniform Fitting Help: 10 points per night

  • Band-o-Rama Help: 10 points per session (morning or evening)

  • Outreach (Eighth Grade Pep Band Night, Eighth Grade Open House, Wildcat Welcome, etc.): 5 points per hour

  • Outside Concert Attendance: 5 points

  • Pep Band Performances: 5 points

  • Church or Community Performance: 5 points

  • Other Events: discretion of directors
