Oshkosh West Bands 2020

Hi, West Band Students and Families!

Please watch the short video discussing next year below:

Placing students in bands for the next school year is a difficult task.  On one hand, it’s exciting to plan for the next year and imagine the great things that all students will be able to do (especially after the disappointing end to this year due to at-home learning).  On the other hand, we know that some students may not be placed where they had hoped and we truly feel for those students.

This year was especially difficult for all: teachers and students. Most of us enjoy the routine of school, the friends, and, in our case, the ability to make music with others every day. Because of the at-home learning situation, that routine was totally thrown out of the window and as a result, motivation and the ability to keep up with school work became an issue for some students. Additionally, some students were now asked to take care of siblings or pick up other duties around the home, which made it difficult to keep up.

Regardless of the amount or level of work that you completed, we want you to know that we are proud of you for what you were able to accomplish. We did not take anything after the middle of March into consideration because of these factors.

Our goal has always been to achieve a balance of placing students where they best fit, where they will grow the most, and lastly where they are needed to balance instrumentation.

Thank you for a great year! Leading up to March, our students were growing and performing so incredibly well and we were excited about the WSMA trips, the final concerts, CARE days, and being with our students every day. We are so proud of everything you did this year, both at school and at home.

If we can help you in any way or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We hope that you are able to enjoy your summer safely and we are so excited to see you in the fall!

Nine Things You Need to Know

We care about you.

Sometimes, the lessons we don't want to hear are the ones we must learn. They prepare us for life.

Life is hard. We’re sorry, but it is at times.

Reactions should be professional. Celebrate or mourn away from the band room.

Do not tell anyone their placement. Do not take pictures and send them. Everyone deserves the chance to discover the results just as you do.

The quality and quantity of the players within our program has been increasing. This makes it increasingly more competitive for placements.

If you did your best, that is all you can do. You can only control your level of effort.

If you have questions, you can come talk to us in a composed manner. We will be honest with you because...

We care about you.

No matter your placement, we will all have an awesome experience next year.

We are SO excited to make music with you.

By clicking on the link below, you agree to let everyone find their placements for themselves. Please do not send a screenshot and text them other than to let them know that they are available.

Boasting about your placement or demeaning another for theirs is inappropriate and may result in a change in your placement. Everyone did their best and we are proud of EVERYONE for their achievements.

These placements are based on information we received in March. If you are not on this list and want to be in band next year, please let us know. We’d love to have you keep playing!

If you have questions, please email BOTH Mr. Singer and Mr. Wilson. They will be happy to talk to you!
