Grading Procedures

Grading for the band classes at West is very simple. Each portion of the band grade constitutes a percentage of the final quarter grade. The breakdown of the grade can be seen below. At the conclusion of each semester, every student in a band class will take a final exam, per district guidelines.

Each class is designed so that students can easily earn an A by actively participating in class activities and attending performances. Outside-of-classtime commitments are minimal and the occasional assignments are often given with a week to turn in for full credit. Playing assessment information is often given in advance and individual help is always available at the student’s request!

  • 93.0% - 100% = A

  • 90.0% - 92.9% = A-

  • 87.0% - 89.9% = B+

  • 83.0% - 86.9% = B

  • 80.0% - 82.9% = B-

  • 77.0% - 79.9% = C+

  • 73.0% - 76.9% = C

  • 70.0% - 72.9% = C-

  • 67.0% - 69.9% = D+

  • 63.0% - 66.9% = D

  • 60.0% - 62.9% = D-

  • 00.0% - 59.9% = F
