Required Supplies


To be successful, all band students must have their required supplies. The following materials should be brought to class each day:

All Students

  • nametag (the band provides free nametags to all students)

  • pencil

  • band folder with music

  • Blueprint for Success book (provided by the band)

All Woodwind and Brass Students

  • Korg TM-60 tuner combo with 1/4” jack (or similar)

  • Peterson TP3 contact microphone (we’ve found this model to be the most durable)

  • flip folder (provided by the band)

  • Personal instruments should be in good working order with yearly professional maintenance.

Flute

  • cleaning rod

  • handkerchief swab

Oboe and Bassoon

  • at least 4 good reeds

  • silk swab

  • cork grease

  • reed-soaking container

Clarinet and Bass Clarinet

  • at least 4 good reeds

  • lyre

  • cork grease

  • swab

Saxophones

  • at least 4 good reeds

  • neck strap

  • lyre

  • silk swab

  • cork grease

Trumpet

  • tuning slide grease

  • valve oil

  • lyre

  • straight mute

Horn

  • rotor valve oil

  • tuning slide grease

Trombone

  • hand slide lubrication (cream variety)

  • tuning slide grease

  • small spray bottle of water (2 to 3 ounces)

Euphonium and Valve Trombone

  • valve oil

  • tuning slide grease

Tuba and Sousaphone

  • valve oil (piston valve instruments)

  • rotor oil (for rotary valve instruments)

  • tuning slide grease

Percussion

  • stick bag

  • concert snare drum sticks (SD1 or IP CL1)

  • hard bell mallets (IP 904)

  • Hardimon marching sticks (SRH)

  • general timpani mallets (T1)

  • medium yarn mallets (IP 240)

  • snare drum practice pad (6” or larger)

  • timpani pitch pipe*

Additional, but not required, equipment (in a general order of importance):

  • medium vibraphone mallets (IP 3006)

  • soft yarn mallets (IP 100)

  • soft timpani mallets (VF T6)

  • hard yarn mallets (IP 400)

  • hard timpani mallets (VF T4)

  • hard rubber mallets for bells and xylophone (VF M5)

  • triangle beaters (Grover TBS)

  • soft vibraphone mallets (IP 3005)

  • hard vibraphone mallets (IP 3007)

* The Kratt Master Key Pitch Pipe (C-C) is recommended. It is the most common and will be durable.
