Week of January 27

Solo and Ensemble Unit

All students are currently preparing solos and/or ensembles to be performed at either the District Solo and Ensemble Festival at Oshkosh North on Saturday, March 1, or in class for a clinician the week of March 3rd.

District Solo and Ensemble Performance

The District Solo and Ensemble Festival will be held at Oshkosh North High School. Families are responsible for their own transportation. Students only need to be there for their own performance(s). We recommend arriving no later than 30 minutes before the performance time. Following the performance, students may wait for their scores or head back home. Scores and rubrics will be available in class the following week. Students will receive a preliminary schedule in approximately two weeks once they are available.

New this year is that there is no fee to families for students who perform at the festival, as this was included in budgets for this school year. Once a student is registered by us (done at the end of the week), we must pay the fee to WSMA. If a student registered for the festival but does not attend, families must repay the fee to the music department. (Class A solos are $12.60, Class B and C solos are $8.90, and Ensembles are between $16.00 and $22.90, split among the ensemble’s members.) We can still change existing registrations, but not after Friday.

Any student who chose an accompanist will have a $40 fee to pay the accompanist for their practice time, a rehearsal, and the performance. (This is not covered by the district.)

In-Class Solo and Ensemble Performance

Students who chose the in-class performance will perform their work during the week of March 3rd. There is no fee for this.

Families, please ask to hear your student play their piece for you!  It will get them used to playing alone in front of others and will help to push their preparation!

Six Flags Trip — May 28, 2025

This year, we will be traveling to Six Flags Great America on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. This will be an optional trip for any student in the music department.

The only criteria to attend is not missing performances; all performances must be attended or made up by the trip date. Costs will be determined in the spring, but fundraisers will be available throughout the year. Hope to see you there!
