What a Spring!

Thank you for all you have done during this turbulent spring semester.  We are so proud of all of our students for what they were able to accomplish during our at-home learning situation.

If you are behind on your assignments, there is still time!  All digital assignments can be completed up until June 3rd at 3:30pm on Canvas.  We are not assessing any late penalties.  Get those assignments in!

Uniform Return

If your tuxedo (jacket, pants, bow tie, cummerbund, uniform bag, and hanger) were not returned to Stannard Cleaners on the previously shared dates and times, you may return them to school during the school-wide return dates. Find out more information about those here.  Fines will be assessed for those parts that are missing.

Music and Instrument Returns

This year’s turn-in for band supplies will take place during the school-wide return dates. Find out more information about those here.  When returning your band items, please be sure to return all of the following:

  • concert music

  • flip folder

  • instrument

If any of these items were left at school, we will account for them in June.

Please make sure that everything returned is labeled with the student’s name.  It will be difficult to account for returned items that are incorrectly labeled and fines may be assessed.

Students, you may keep your Blueprint books.  We will use new ones next year.  You are also welcome to keep your band folder (but return the concert music) if you would like.  If you keep your folder, please make sure every returned piece of concert music is marked with your initials IN PENCIL.

Fines will be asses for any materials not returned on time, per school policy.

Spring Break 2020 Trip Update

If you are traveling with the band in March of 2020, please make sure to read the email update sent on May 26, 2020.

Next Year

We are SO excited to return to a more-normal school routine next year.  We don’t know exactly what the year will bring, but at least this time, we will have the opportunity to plan.

If we do need to do digital learning for a portion of next year, we have been brainstorming ways to allow our band students more choice in their assignments.  We are looking at piloting a few different “tracks” that students can choose from in Canvas.  At this time those tracks may include:

  • Performance: working on specific techniques to  improve your playing abilities

  • Composition and Theory: working on writing and arranging music and the skills that go along with that

  • Exploration: activities that involve music study or performance

  • Hybrid: a combination of the previous tracks.

For any of these tracks, we will seek student input for what types of activities to include.

Please check out this page dedicated to next year, including band placements.

Thank You!

Thank you for a great year!  Leading up to March, our students were growing and performing so incredibly well and we were excited about the WSMA trips, the final concerts, CARE days, and being with our students every day.  Those things just weren’t in the cards for the end of this year and we’re excited to return to the usual end-of-the-year traditions in the music department next spring.

We are so proud of everything you did this year, both at school and at home.

If we can help you in any way or you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We hope that you are able to enjoy your summer safely and we are so excited to see you in the fall!
